You have probably already begun thinking about Lent and the yearly question of what you’ll give up. I find that it is more profitable to take something up, just one thing, something which isn’t just a discipline, but which will benefit me in my walk with God. It might be something which is of service to others, it might be something that benefit those who come into contact with me. What it will certainly be is something that draws us closer to God and which communicates his love to the world.
Since arriving here in November, I have been giving a lot of thought to how we communicate who and what we are from our churches and into the parish of Bournemouth, and how we might deepen our life in God together. I hope that Lent will begin to focus our minds on this.
Our primary function is to worship God in this place. Throughout Lent there will be an opportunity for us to say Midday Prayer together in the chancel. It is a short service, only ten minutes, and includes a reading from scripture and part of a psalm. We will also pray for the many things and people in need of our prayers going on in our parish: my thanks to Don and Tim for putting this list together. Perhaps most importantly of all, the service will contain silence in order to listen to God. My hope is that it will be led by others, as well as me!
I hope that you will perhaps choose a day or two a week when you might come and join in an opportunity to deepen your spiritual life, and to meet others meeting God.
Midday Prayer will happen every weekday, Monday to Friday at noon, from Wednesday 5th March until Thursday 17th April inclusive in the chancel at St Peter’s
I hope you’ll be able to support this.
