The Choir of St. Peter’s was established in 1865 and is effectively Bournemouth’s ‘cathedral choir’. The choir consists of up to 16 choristers (boys and girls), together with choral scholars (aged 13-18), and capable adult alto, tenor and bass singers.
Choral music is central to the worship at St. Peter’s. The choir sings at St. Peter’s on alternate Sundays and feast days during term-time. They also sing regularly at cathedrals (most recently Winchester, Portsmouth, and Worcester) and for concerts and other special events.
Being a chorister at St. Peter’s is highly rewarding. It provides considerable opportunities for musical, academic, and social development, and is great fun. Choristers develop valuable life skills and gain real self-confidence while receiving a unique musical education. We welcome boys and girls aged 7+ who are enthusiastic about singing. No previous musical experience is necessary. Click here to find out more.
There are also opportunities available for adult singers to join the choir. You will need to have a clear and accurate voice, sight-reading ability, and a willingness to fit into a friendly team. To find out more, or to arrange a short audition, please contact Duncan Courts at music -at- stpetersbournemouth -dot- org -dot- uk.
You can follow the choir on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
The choir is currently meeting on Zoom to sing and learn music theory on Wednesday evenings. New probationers are welcome to join these sessions.
