The Civic and Parish Church of Bournemouth

The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari. Friday 2nd November 2018

Date: Friday 2nd November 2018

Time: 8pm

The Birth of Horror. A new score to this classic expressionist masterpiece by the Cabinet feat. Jack Maguire (violin)

The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari represents the birth of horror on screen, a German expressionist masterpiece born of the terrible experiences of the Trenches, a wild and experimental journey with a new score by the Cabinet of Living Cinema, first performed at LSO St. Luke’s, now brought to the awe-inspiring environs of St. Peter’s Church, resting place of Mary Shelley, whose novel inspired many aspects of German expressionist cinema in the 1920s including Nosferatu, Caligari and Metropolis. The Cabinet perform on harp, guitar, viola, clarinet, percussion, vocals and live FX to bring a darkly atmospheric, but also lively and comical take on the film score inspired by Hans Zimmer, Ennio Morricone, balkan and klezmer music and tonight with special guest Jack Maguire (BSO) on lead violin. Expect the unexpected.
