The season of Lent begins with our Ash Wednesday Eucharist, sung by the chorister scholar and adult voices.
During the service, you can receive the traditional ritual of the imposition of ashes. A cross will be traced on your forehead in ash made from the previous year’s palm crosses. This is a symbol of our human fragility and mortality.
The setting is Harold Darke’s evocative Communion Service in A minor. We sing Allegri’s famous setting of Miserere mei, Deus, during the imposition of ashes, and the anthem during communion is Wesley’s Wash me throughly.
